WKDU Philadelphia radio station
WKDU Philadelphia 91.7 FM is a non-commercial educational radio station broadcasting from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 91.7 FM with the call sign WKDU.
The station is owned by Drexel University and operated entirely by university students, with some alumni also serving as DJs.
Its studio is in the basement of the Creese Student Center on the Drexel campus, and its transmitter is in a dormitory.
WKDU began as a carrier-current station (WMAX) in 1958, changed to WXDT in 1962, and began broadcasting on FM on July 17, 1971. Its slogan is “Commit Radio Warfare.”
WKDU is the only non-commercial free-format FM station in Philadelphia, meaning the DJs choose what they play without a fixed playlist. Its programming is eclectic, with genres such as rock, punk, indie, electronic, reggae, and more.
