From the Canadian prairies – Sunny 94 radio

Sunny 94 (CJUV-FM) is a charming station in Lacombe, Alberta (central Alberta, about 20 km north of Red Deer and with coverage into Ponoka and nearby areas).

Owned by Golden West Broadcasting, it broadcasts at 94.1 FM and focuses on hits that make you feel at home.

A Little History

CJUV-FM went on the air on September 10, 2007, in Lacombe, as the first FM station dedicated exclusively to central Alberta under Golden West Broadcasting (an independent network with roots in Saskatchewan since 1958).

Previously, the local dial relied on signals from Red Deer or Edmonton, but Sunny 94 filled that void with a local, community-based format, approved by the CRTC to serve a growing rural population.

It quickly became “Lacombe’s only radio station,” gaining loyalty with its focus on local news and timeless music.

The music.

Sunny 94 is pure classic hits, with the best of the 60s, 70s, and 80s: oldies, pop, and rock that transport you back to your youth, like The Beatles, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, U2, Supertramp, and The Beach Boys.

Its motto – “The Music You Grew Up With!” – nails it: feel-good tunes with a Canadian touch, ideal for drives through the Rockies or afternoons in the Alberta prairies.
