97.3 The Eagle Best Music Mix

Let’s continue with the Canadian vibe on Vancouver Island, listen to The Eagle radio station here, a mix of local news and musical hits.

97.3 The Eagle is a regional radio station that strongly reaches this remote area of the West Island, covering everything from the beaches of Tofino to the Interior Mountains.

Owned by Pattison Media (part of Island Radio), it is centered in Courtenay, but its signal travels well across north-central Vancouver Island, including rebroadcasts and streaming for spots like Tofino.

A Little History

CKLR-FM went on the air on September 1, 1998, in Courtenay, British Columbia, as a fresh addition to the Comox Valley dial, under the ownership of Island Radio.

The first voice heard was Bill Nation’s with the morning news – and he’s still on the air today, as the only original member of the team! Initially, it focused on local formats to compete with stations like The Wolf and The Lounge, appealing to the growing North Island population. It quickly adopted the branding “97.3 The Eagle” for hot adult contemporary, and in 2005, following Island Radio’s restructuring under the Jim Pattison Group, its regional coverage expanded, including online streaming to reach remote communities like Tofino and Campbell River.

By 2025, it has cemented itself as “The Island’s Greatest Hits,” with local awards for its community involvement, including coverage of coastal events and a strong connection to island life—from the waves of Tofino to the parties of Comox!
