Listen to The Lounge 99.9 here, pure adult standards and soft oldies music, with the best of the last 50 years.
The Lounge 99.9 (CHPQ-FM) is a charming and relaxed station in Parksville, British Columbia, broadcasting at 99.9 FM and focusing on soft, nostalgic music for a mature audience. It is owned by Island Radio, a division of the Jim Pattison Group, and serves the Oceanside area.
CHPQ’s roots date back to the first radio station in Parksville, which began in 1973 as CHPQ-AM on 1370 (with the letters representing Coombs, Hilliers, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach), as a semi-satellite of CHUB in Nanaimo, owned by Nanaimo Broadcasting Co.
In 1986, the CRTC approved CHUB to become FM (CKWV 102.3) and place a rebroadcaster in Parksville at 99.9 FM as CKWV-FM-1, marking the official birth of the current frequency.
Over time, it adopted the branding “The Lounge 99.9” to focus on adult standards, attracting the affluent over-50s population on the coast.
