You are listening to Radio 1, a radio station in Zurich, Switzerland, with quality music from past decades, along with some interesting talk.
Radio 1 Zurich is a station focused on adults in the largest region of Switzerland.
It’s an interesting project, primarily because its founder is a living legend of broadcasting in that country.
A bit of history
Roger Schawinski, founder of Radio 1, is considered the pioneer of private radio in Switzerland.
Schawinski founded Radio 24 (the country’s first private station, which initially broadcast from Italy because it was illegal in Switzerland) and also managed the German channel Sat.1.
He later launched Radio 1 on March 17, 2008, after purchasing the license of a former station called Radio Tropic.
Radio 1 Profile
The station focuses on people between 30 and 60 years old. Its audience is urban, educated, and interested in Swiss and EU politics, economics, and culture.
They don’t try to compete with current hits or TikTok trends. Here you’ll hear classic pop-rock, soul, and quality hits from recent decades.
Political debates: Radio 1 is famous for its opinion programs. Schawinski himself often participates in heated debates with public figures, which sometimes generates a lot of discussion in the city (Switzerland isn’t known for confrontation on these issues).
Furthermore, they are “the voice of Zurich.” Their news bulletins are fast-paced yet very accurate, covering what’s happening in the canton.
